Today, Lakeland, the UK’s leading kitchenware specialist, announces its expansion into the $2.3 billion Australian kitchenware market later this year as the next stage of its overseas development strategy.
Known and loved for its innovative and creative kitchenware, Lakeland was founded in the early 1960s in Windemere in the UK’s Lake District by Alan Rayner. Over fifty years’ later, the family-owned business has grown to become a hugely successful multi-national retailer operating across the UK, India and the Middle East as well as distributing to millions of customers worldwide.
Lakeland’s Managing Director, Sam Rayner, believes there is tremendous opportunity for the Lakeland brand in Australia.
“Our innovative, quality kitchenware ranges align perfectly with Australia’s foodie culture and passion for cooking and baking so we’re confident that our products will prove very popular with Australian consumers,” Sam said.
Marketing and International Development Director, Tony Preedy added, “We are very selective with the markets we choose to enter and Australia’s no different. We’re delighted to make Lakeland’s products available to Australian consumers and are extremely pleased to have selected iconic Australian retailer, The Good Guys as our local partner.”
The Good Guys will be responsible for managing Lakeland’s Australian operations. Stand-alone Lakeland stores are scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2017, however the partnership will begin with Lakeland stores-within-stores at the Good Guys, starting in 12 locations in 2016 with plans to expand nationally over the next 2 years.
As well as being known for its exceptional innovative products, Lakeland is famous for its customer service, something that resonates with Australian consumers. According to Sam Rayner, Lakeland customers can expect the very best in customer service long after they purchase thanks to the brands famous ‘no-quibble’ satisfaction guarantee.
“Customer service isn’t just a phrase to us, it’s the Lakeland ethos. It’s what sets us apart from other kitchenware retailers and has helped us to build the loyal following we have today. All of Lakeland’s products are backed by our complete satisfaction guarantee. That’s our promise and it applies to all our customers around the globe, including Australia,” Sam said.
Australian customers will be able to purchase Lakeland products through The Good Guys stores and thegoodguys.com.au as early as October ahead of the launch of Lakeland’s website and first stand-alone stores in early 2017.
The partnership between the two brands is a match made in heaven according to The Good Guys CEO, Michael Ford, who is very eager to be bringing Lakeland products to Australia.
“Lakeland is an incredibly loved brand in the UK and it won’t take long for Australian consumers to discover why. When you combine the product quality with the price and their customer service I think they bring something new and very special to the Australian market,” Michael said.
“For The Good Guys this partnership forms part of our growth strategy and adds a whole new dimension to our ‘Everything for the Cook’ offering. We have been refining our kitchenware product range over the past nine months and the addition of Lakeland will provide us with a unique solution for kitchenware that puts us well ahead of our competitors,” he said.
The Lakeland range has over 4,000 products from quality kitchen utensils and storage containers to vegetable spiralizers and anti-gravity pouring cake kits. The company is renowned for finding innovative products that make life easier for customers and then putting them through a rigorous selection and testing process to ensure they meet the brands high standards.
